File (RTF) will not Attach / Download
There is something goofy going on with some RTF files - especially ones with forms in them - that is causing the file to either refuse to upload or refuse to download from Blackboard. When the file is opened in Office 2010 and re-saved in the same format, the file uploads and downloads as expected. Possible variables:
- Software used to originally create the item
- Properties elements in the file's header
- Gremlins
As of 8/8/2011, Heather and Mary were still researching causes. However, here are some suggested workarounds:
File will not Attach
If a faculty member has a document - usually a DOC, DOCX, or RTF file - that will not attach to an assignment or an item (the system just clocks and clocks), do the following:
- Verify it is the document and not Blackboard which is causing the problem (i.e. attempt to attach a different document that you created)
- If it IS Blackboard, then UC needs to be contacted
- If it is not Blackboard, then proceed to Step 2
- Open the document
- Save As and rename the file
- Attempt to reattach
- If it does not reattach, then get Heather/Mary/UC involved
File will not Download
If there is a file attachment - usually a RTF - already in Blackboard that will not download (the system just clocks and clocks), do the following:
- Create an Export of the course
- Download the Export
- Open the Export
- Locate the file
- Open the document
- Save As and rename the file
- Re-attach the new file to the Blackboard course
- If it does not reattach, then get Heather/Mary/UC involved
