How to use the Paste from Word Building Block

You know how we are always saying "Don't paste from Word! Don't paste from Word! Don't paste from Word!" because it pastes in a bunch of garbage code that can affect the rest of Blackboard? You've had to copy from Word, paste into Notepad, copy from Notepad and then paste into Blackboard. Well now you can copy from Word and paste into a special textbox which cleans up all of the garbage code for you, while preserving the basic formatting and structure.

Paste from Word is a new MashUp Building Block that displays on the Text Box Editor (visual or plain) under the MashUps icon. To paste something from Word,

To enable Paste from Word in your course:

  1. On the Control Panel, expand Customization and select Tool Availability
  2. Check the box beside "Word"
  3. Click Submit

To use Paste from Word:

  1. Create or edit a new or existing content Item, Announcements, etc (just about anything)
  2. Click on the MashUp Icon
  3. Select Paste from Word
  4. A pop-up window will open
  5. Copy from your Word document
  6. Paste into the special "Paste your Word text here" box
  7. Click Submit
  8. Edit or add to the text
  9. Click Submit to create or edit your new Item/Announcement, etc
